LETTERS TO MAGA: Congress MUST Support Innovation In The Drug Industry!
My nine year old daughter suffers from psoriasis. For a while, we weren’t sure what the disease was. Rashes would suddenly appear all over her body. Some were itchy; some would peel and even flake; and some would just turn red. But it was clear that something was going on – and I hated seeing her in pain.
Fortunately, we were able to see a doctor and get the right diagnosis. She now receives shots and uses prescribed creams nightly to treat her symptoms. My daughter is only in the fourth grade, and I am worried she will have to deal with psoriasis for the rest of her life.
I have not yet told her there is no cure for her condition as I remain hopeful through research and innovation, our biopharmaceutical companies will find a cure. I am worried that a cure may not happen if Congress passes legislation allowing government price setting. According to the Congressional Budget Office, an estimated 30 fewer cures or treatments could be found if this becomes law. What if the cure for psoriasis was one of those 30 potential breakthroughs?
I hope Congress will reject price setting legislation. My daughter deserves a chance to live a healthy, disease-free life.
Sincerely,
Amy Christina
